A key management system (KMS), sometimes known as a cryptographic key management system (CKMS) or enterprise key management system (EKMS), is a standardized method for creating, distributing, and maintaining cryptographic keys for devices and applications. They may address all elements of security, from secure key creation through safe key exchange to secure key management and storage on the client. As a result, a KMS encompasses both the backend capability for key creation, distribution, and replacement and the client functionality for injecting keys, storing keys, and managing keys on devices.
